Marcus Bello
Born on August 24, 1975, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I grew up in Vila da Penha, a vibrant suburb of the city. Father and husband - Owner and Founder of Division One Jiu-Jitsu
Bachelor in Physical Education, 6th Degree Black Belt Jiu-Jitsu, Black Belt Judo, and Co-founder GFTEAM.
My journey in martial arts began at the age of six when I started practicing Judo to improve my focus, discipline, and overall health. By seven, I was competing at the state level, and at nine, I won my first interstate tournament in Minas Gerais.
My passion for Judo grew, and at 13, I joined the prestigious Espaço Livre Academy under the mentorship of Professor Douglas Motta, where I became a standout athlete.
Over the years, I achieved multiple milestones, including becoming a State Champion and representing Rio de Janeiro in national competitions. However, after experiencing challenges in Judo’s ground fighting (Newaza). I was encouraged by my coach to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, marking the start of a new chapter in my martial arts career. Simultaneously, I began teaching children’s classes, which inspired me to pursue a degree in Physical Education to deepen my expertise and contribute to the development of high-level athletes.
At 18, I joined the Gama Filho University team, one of Brazil's top fighting teams, where I trained under Master Alfredo Dornelles. I earned a scholarship for my athletic achievements and competed in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu at a national level, earning a bronze medal at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 1995. This pivotal moment further solidified my commitment to the sport, and I began training under Jiu-Jitsu master Julio César.
In 1998, I graduated with a degree in Physical Education and, the following year, relocated to Aracaju to establish the first Jiu-Jitsu branch at Universidade Gama Filho. During my two years there, I built a thriving team and left a legacy that continues to deliver results today. In 2001, I returned to Rio de Janeiro to coach at Centro Esportivo Miecimo da Silva and later joined the Brazilian Navy as a Naval Officer in 2009.
